Homebeat are delighted to present the Dublin debut of electronic guru James Holden & The Animal Spirits this October in The Sugar Club.
After a spectacular performance at this year's Body&Soul, James and his incredible improv ensemble are bringing their self described 'folk-trance' sound to our fine city.
Over a career spanning almost two decades in the realm of electronic music, James has explored every side of trance. Beginning in the early noughties in progressive dance as a master of melodic euphoria, before leading his own "rebellion against dance music" from 2006 onwards. 2013 album The Inheritors and 2017 album The Animal Spirits became celebrations of different influences from collaborative projects as the joy of live performance took over and the producer turned bandleader. There's a hypnotic, transformative power to the soundscape this five piece collective produce, with spiritual jazz, northern African influences and an overall tracing and celebrating of folk traditions from all over the world. The group's live performances include brass, wind and live percussion, breaking any existing rigid structures of electronic music.
