The College Historical Society, known as 'The Hist', was founded in 1770 by Edmund Burke and as such is the oldest, as well as one of the most prestigious, societies in the world. The society has previously awarded their highest honour- the Burke Medal- to artists such as WB Yeats, Salman Rushdie, Patti Smith, Tracey Emin, Steven Moffat, Sinéad O'Connor, Hilary Mantel and Ralph Fiennes.
“It’s with great pride I’ll be going to Dublin to accept this award. For my work to be acknowledged in this way is a true honour, and the fact that I’ll be receiving a medal once awarded to WB Yeats is a dream”- Patrick Wolf
Grace Conway of the College Historical Society at Trinity College Dublin explains the decision to award Patrick: "It is an honour and a privilege for us to award Patrick Wolf this medal as we admire not only his extraordinary creative talent; but also his music is as diverse as it is beautiful, as it pushes boundaries and refuses to be tied down to just one genre. Mr. Wolf has consistently impressed us with levels of creativity and innovation which we believe have contributed to revolutionizing music, in both how it is both created and performed. Mr. Wolf has made powerful difference to the lives of many people by encouraging and highlighting the fundamental importance of philanthropy and is one of the most original and innovative creative performers of our time."
