'Sounds of the Diaspora' is dedicated to the rich diversity of African and Caribbean music styles and their influence within the Irish music scene today. This concert showcases three unique artists who explore their musical heritage in melody, rhythm and imagery, while combining it with contemporary musical styles. This fusing of musical identities creates something that is fresh, exciting and of great value to the culture of music in modern Ireland.
Farah Elle - Farah El Neihum, otherwise known as ‘Farah Elle’; is a songwriter with an alternative pop sound influenced by an eclectic taste of genres; from hiphop to R&B and ska, while featuring Arabian echoes from her Libyan background. She is currently based in Dublin, having moved to Ireland with her family when she was 2. Her rhythmic lyrics, piano driven songs and distinctive voice aim to reveal something of the beauty in the ephemeral everyday.
Ines Khai - Nicknamed ‘The Queen of Creole Soul’, Ines ‘Bwabwa Lika Wabap The Amazon’ Khai has an amazing vocal range. Her language is Creole despite living in exile, her skin vibrates to the Caribbean chords and her heart beats to the rhythm of the ka drums from Guadeloupe. Currently living in Dundalk, Co Louth, Ines is always happy to share her songs live on stage. She has created a solo repertoire with only guitar and voice, singing an intimist story about crossing oceans with beautiful creole words and melodies.
Fehdah - Fehdah is the Afrofuturism musical project of Emma Garnett. Largely influenced by the Wassoulou music of West Africa and Neo Soul of North America, Emma's polyphonically driven music combines her African roots with her band’s irresistible hip hop and funk forays to create a sound that's simultaneously forward looking and referential to the past.
